I really enjoyed this one Ally Shields has done it again. She has brought a little bit of paranormal to real life I liked the mix that she put into it. Most urban fantasies are full blown paranormal stuff this one is about a cop that can now see ghosts which deals with her which heritage, seems like this could even happen in New Orleans as it is written.

Even though I knew who the bad guy was from the start that did not deter from this book at all. The writing and plot still made you want to know exactly what was going on and how they were going to go about getting the answers. The Chemistry between Maggie and Josh is done really well. It was there but not what the book is all about. The only thing and I don't think much could be done about it but the cover didn't match the story in my opinion or maybe its just because I didn't picture the main character looking quite like that.

I also liked the depth to Josh and his past with his brother and how that intertwines with Maggie and her best friend. There is so much drama that  happened and that could be pitted against both Maggie and Josh it was very interesting to read through, and the whole time they are fighting you can just sense the sexual tension rising where your just yelling at them in your head when reading for them to just do it already.

Maggie’s gaze sharpened as the old crime scene routine fell into place. Discarded clothing near an old washing machine, empty beer cans. Hurst and his girlfriend hadn’t been especially tidy, but she’d seen worse. The kitchen was clutter-free except for an empty pizza box on the counter. Large. Smelled like pepperoni. The fridge contained three takeout cartons of leftovers—gumbo, red beans, something indefinable—a quart of milk, half used, and three beer cans in the plastic holder from a six-pack. Apparently no one cooked.

She entered the hallway. A check of the guest bedroom and a glance in the living room yielded nothing unusual, only the expected drawer or cushion out of place due to the police search.

She’d left the main bedroom for last.

The bodies were gone and the bed stripped. She knelt to look under the bed, but anything on the floor and nightstand had been bagged and removed to the lab. Otherwise, it was much as she remembered. Ten by ten, holding a full-size bed and one dresser. She moved across the room to check the closet…and heard a floorboard creak in the hallway.

Maggie froze, her heart hammering. Someone was in the house. She hadn’t been particularly silent, so they must know she was there. Why so quiet? She glided back to the door, the SIG Sauer already in her hand. When the hardwood floor emitted a second small sound, she whipped around the corner, pointing her gun at the intruder.

And faced the deadly end of a Beretta, held by a tall man with compelling, steel-blue eyes. The air vibrated with energy…and for one long moment, they stared at one another.

“Who are you?” she demanded.

“Police. And you?” The voice was cool, richly masculine.

She took in the dark blue jacket over a white shirt open at the collar, a loose tie slightly askew, and his black hair just long enough that an unruly strand curled over his forehead.

“Show me your badge.” She was stalling for time. Maggie didn’t doubt the confident, intense man on the other end of the gun was a cop. A very good-looking cop who wasn’t the least bit happy to find her there. How could she explain her presence?

He flipped open his jacket with one hand, revealing the badge clipped to his belt. “Detective Brandt. Now put down your gun and back away from it.”

He hadn’t raised his voice, but the or else was loud and clear. She nodded, slipped the safety on, and set the weapon on the floor, keeping her hands where he could see them.

“What are you doing in here?” he asked.

She figured he’d soon find out anyway, so she told him the truth—albeit a limited version. “Assessing the murder scene. The male victim was involved in my own shooting.”

The cop’s eyes narrowed, but the gun didn’t waver. “Should I know you?”

Very hot, steamy hot. Again for this one there is a warning and you should head that warning if you are not ready for the fire. I didn't like Gregoire or Alyssa as much as the other two characters from the first book but they had their moments. Gregoire is very jealous of anyone that has Alyssa's attention or is touching her which can be bad but in a sweet way I guess. I guess we all have are quirks, and Alyssa was awesome at first wanting her independence and wanting to make choices on her own. She did do well with that making demands of Gregoire but of course he can only be swayed so much.  I still think he should have done a bit more groveling and what not but that is just my opinion.

Other than the steamy part of the book we continue on with another relationship that we saw in the first book, which is Sam and Eric. I liked this couple a whole lot more and really kind of saved it for me. Eric was so sweet and caring towards Sam since she went through something horrific in the first book and even though he was going through the mating frenzy he still had a collar on his emotions to not hurt the one person that was his mate. Now that is love. Though I feel some of the issues were swept away by her trying to get over it to be able to mate I am wondering if we will see more of this in later books possibly I mean abuse like that does not just go away.

We are also given a bit of a preview of who the next couple is going to be for book three and I myself am excited to know what is going to happen. Now here is a guy that definitely doesn't want a mate let alone any woman that close to him. Dorian has some secrets and I must know them.

Even though I found some flaws with this book it was still a good one and I am glad I finally got to it. I needed a ghost book and a friend who was also reading this one reminded me that I still had this one on my kindle and have not read it yet, so I decided to pick it up since she liked it so well.

I will say Grateful got on my nerves a lot she just couldn't get enough of Rick and that kind of bothered me especially since she basically swore off men because of her Ex, and then what is the first thing she does, jumps on Rick. I don't get good vibes from Rick yet I don't know if he will grow on me or what as I continue the series or if he will prove that he is actually bad. Now Logan I actually did like as long as he wasn't being jealous and what not.

I am still very interested in where this is going there are a lot of questions left unanswered and I must know more. I am glad she has a best friend though to help her with everything, isn't that what best friends are for?

I loved the ending to this it was nonstop action from the very beginning. Everything that was building up in the first two books finally gave way and everything started to come together. Of course one of my favorite characters is the Lochness monster, and we get to see a lot more of this creature in this book and learn a little  more about it and why it isn't all bad. 

Lila again is back to take names and kick some butt with the help of her friends as well. I like Lila a lot because she is so tough but she has issues just like everyone and deals with them the best way she knows how. The ending was awesome and I was left wondering what next I know this is the end of the Trilogy but I could definitely see more if ever needed. Maybe about when she is older. 

Like I said the pace of the book is really fast I flew through it and couldn't put it down, which is good for a last book. Since some times it is hard for me to pick up the last book but this one kept me on the edge of my seat I had to finish it to see what happened. I also enjoyed that it wasn't all lovey dovey and was more about the story than the relationship though that was in there as well just not as much.

I received this book from the First to Reads program for an honest review, all reviews and opinions are my own.

I really liked this one I am learning that I like a lot of what Nora Roberts writes. The last thing that I read by her though I did not like the main character which unfortunately makes it hard to continue on with the book but in this one I loved Naomi and how she was so strong yet she did have her weaknesses. Xander is a really good fit for her I think pushes her into uncomfortable territory for her but still lets her make the ultimate decision regardless.

The book took a twist ending I thought it was going to be something completely different then what it was. The ending was quiet short, I am not sure why other than to say maybe it wasn't about the ending but more about the middle and how she changed through out her life even and grew even with the horrors she has seen and the ugliness of humanity that she shouldn't of had to endure.

I think the title relates to the book really well it not only tells of just one person's obsession through out the book but many her brother has an obsession with learning what their father did and how he hid it to become a better detective to hunt down others and put them away. Then there is the fathers obsession with fame and wanting to be in the spotlight once he was arrested. Also there is Naomi's obsession with work and putting her all into it to ignoring people and trying to ignore her past. Which doesn't work out real well.
